Camps bring children together

Camp Sign Me Up 2010

Camp Sign Me Up is one of two camps that took place simultaneously from June 1 to June 4th.  The campers of Camp Sign Me Up are hearing children who want to learn American Sign Language and how to communicate with their D/deaf and hard of hearing peers.  Parents had rave reviews of the camp and even learned a few signs themselves!

Deaf Youth Leadership 2010

Deaf Youth Leadership was also June 1 to 4 at Bridges.  The campers of Deaf Youth Leadership learned how to communicate with and teach their hearing peers during the after school program and provided student leadership for Camp Sign Me Up. 

Together, the two camps helped students who are hearing and those who have hearing loss learn to communicate, get along, and overcome barriers.  The campers enjoyed daily communication lessons, activities, and field trips.  They particularly enjoyed their outings to the Farmers’ Market, Adventure Science Center, Nashville Zoo and Nashville Shores.
