Donicé Kaufman with the help of equestrian, Jennifer Pennington, and along with Phil Klytta and Trina Baylor, visited Safe Haven Family Shelter early Christmas morning with Donicé’s horses, Beau and Romany. Beau and Romany brought Christmas gifts, donated by Jennifer Pennington, for the children at Safe Haven. Children and their parents had the opportunity to ride and pet the horses. Channel 5 News came and filmed a segment for the 5 and 6 o’clock news.
Safe Haven is the result of two nonprofits wanting to serve the homeless families of Nashville more efficiently. Separately, the shelters existed as Safe Haven Shelter and Nashville Family Shelter. In the fall of 2003, the decision was made to merge the two, and to serve five homeless families at a time. In addition to the shelter, there are six transitional homes, allowing Safe Haven to serve 11 families throughout Nashville.
