Interpreting Services

At Bridges, we provide professional, quality American Sign Language interpreters to bridge communication between the Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing communities.

Interpreters at Bridges adhere to the highest standards of ethical service.  All of the interpreters at Bridges go through a skills assessment. Bridges maintains a list of approximately 40 sign language interpreters, 70% of whom are nationally certified by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID). In addition, we have the only legally certified court interpreter in the middle Tennessee area.

As a community-focused nonprofit agency, when you use Interpreting Services from Bridges, your dollars are invested back into your local community to enhance services for the Deaf and hard of hearing communities.

Bridges provides interpreters for a wide range of settings. From performances by some of the most well-known acts in the world, to the courtroom, to the doctor’s office, Bridges can provide the appropriate interpreter for your needs.

Typical settings include:

Bridges’s Interpreting Services are also proud to serve those individuals who are deaf-blind. Our roster contains several interpreters who have experience working in the specialized mode of tactile interpreting.

Transcribing Services

Bridges is proud to offer transcribing services to those who prefer to see text rather than American Sign Language. Bridges utilizes TypeWell technology to provide meaning-for-meaning based services, ensuring the receiver is able to follow and comprehend what is being said around them. Transcribers are trained specifically on TypeWell software and are able to provide accurate and professional service. No equipment is required by those requesting transcribing services.

Please contact Debbie Shirley, Manager of Interpreting Services, at ds@hearingbridges.org or (615) 248-8828 for rate information, general information about our services, or to schedule an interpreter.  You may also request an interpreter online here.
