Silver and Gold

If you ever went to summer camp, you know it well.  You probably sang or signed it hundreds of times…“Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold.”  How fantastic that recently (and oddly during our summer camp season) I reconnected with some old friends and made some wonderful new ones!

At our Big Band Boogie fundraiser, I was thrilled to see a young man I knew when he was a teenager.  He grew up, moved away, but has come back and is volunteering with us.  I also met a host of new friends who came to dance, support Bridges, and learn about the wonderful programs in this community.

It was such a great surprise to see my old friend again. As I looked around that night, I remember thinking how terrific it is, how lucky we are as an agency, to have both old and new friends.  Friendship is hard sometimes and must be nurtured.  I hope we never forget to say thank you to our tried and true friends. I also hope we make sure our new friends feel warm and welcomed each time we meet.  Both are as precious as silver and gold.

Come see us soon.
